Colon Theater is the main opera house of Buenos Aires and is considered one of the finest in the world, comparable to Berlin's Konzerthaus and Vienna's Musikverein. The original theater was opened in 1857 but was closed thirty years later to make way for the new, current building, which was inaugurated in 1908. Recently refurbished, the seven tiered main theatre houses up to 3,000 guests and features a lavish designed composed of Italian marble, French stained glass, and Venetian mosaics.
