This beautifully restored site officially named Mission San Carlos Borromeo del rio Carmelo contains a parish of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Monterey, museum and a Catholic school. Carmel Mission founded by Father Junipero Serra in 1771 still maintains its adobe architecture structures and bell tower dome as well as original relics, furnishings and garments. The U.S. National Historic Landmark also contains an elaborate Casavant Frères organ, Spanish Liturgical Art and Serra's tomb.
