The Manhattan intersection of Broadway Road and Fourth Avenue was originally created in 1839 based on urban squares of London, England. Its name was based on the "union" of two major road, then called Bloomingdale and Bowery roads. The Registered National Historic Landmark was one of the locations workers that gathered for the first Labor Day celebration on Sept. 5, 1882. Today the square has a large Farmer's Market; a park with playgrounds, statues of historic figures and gardens; public art, and numerous businesses.
