Originally opened in 2000 as the National D-Day Museum, this New Orleans institution focuses on the American role in World War II and the war's Battle of Normandy. The National World War II Museum features military aircraft, exhibition galleries, multimedia displays, films including the award-winning 4-D selection of "Beyond All Boundaries" and two restaurants offering a nostalgic menu. The museum was founded by historian Stephen Ambrose and is affiliated with the Smithsonian Institution.
