This Gothic cathedral is crowned with Brunelleschi's iconic and innovative dome, the world's largest brick dome ever constructed, which can be seen from almost anywhere in Florence. Santa Maria del Fiore is a cathedral complex that also includes the Baptistery and Giotto's Campanile, all three of which are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site covering Florence's historic center. For the best views of Florence and the surrounding Tuscan countryside, climb the 463 steps to the dome; the work is well worth the reward.
