Established in 1831 by United States Secretary of the Treasury Albert Gallatin, this university's main 229-acre campus is in Washington Square in the Greenwich Village section of Manhattan. New York University, which has 14 schools with more than 40,000 students, has a torch logo originating from New York City's Statue of Liberty. It is one of the largest private universities in the United States and has one of the biggest academic libraries in the country.
