This Lake District treasure is England’s largest lake, and arguably its most beautiful. Lake Windermere, which is 10.5 miles long, was formed in a glacial trough after the retreat of ice and today is one of England’s most preferred summer getaways. Lake Windermere is part of the Lake District National Park, the largest and most popular national park in the United Kingdom, which has more than 1,800 miles of footpaths.
