Mediterranean Revival architecture is abundant in this South Florida destination that calls itself "The City Beautiful." The planned community was developed in the 1920s by George E. Merrick and contains historic treasures such as the Biltmore Hotel, Venetian Pool, Merrick House and DeSoto Plaza & Fountain. Other noted attractions are Miracle Mile, Fairchild Tropical Botanical Garden, University of Miami, Alhambra Water Tower and the nationality-theme villages.
