Take a journey back to the late 19th Century when you visit the charming Kingston house and gardens of Canada's first prime minister Sir John A. Macdonald from 1848-49. Bellevue House built in 1840 in Italian villa style with decorative balconies on nine acres has costumed actors tend to the land and explain what life was like in the 1840s for MacDonald and his family. The National Historic Site of Canada also has exhibits about the first national leader and the home's decor reflects what it would have looked like in that era.
