Nine days in Taiwan means nine days of temples, lanterns, lakes, and big city lights. Start in Taipei, where tradition and modernity collide at Longshan Temple and the skyline views from Elephant Mountain. Connect with Taiwan's Indigenous Bunun community through their folk stories and art by Sun Moon Lake. Wander the colourful Dragon and Tiger Pagodas in Kaohsiung, sip tea in Jiufen's lantern-lit lanes, and enjoy plenty of free time to craft your own adventure. Taiwan is small in size, but the memories here go big.

What are the tipping guidelines for this trip? Tipping is customary - though not compulsory - in the tourism industry and not only shows an expression of satisfaction it may also be of considerable significance to the people who will take care of you during your travels. There are times during the trip where there is opportunity to tip the local guides or drivers we use. You may do this individually, or your CEO may offer to collect the money and tip as a group.

Recommendations for tipping drivers and local guides would range from 1 to 3 USD per person per day depending on the quality and length of the service; ask your CEO for specific recommendations based on the circumstances and culture. A suggestion would be for each group member to contribute anonymously by putting their tip into an envelope. This often works the best and the group as a whole should gather to present the gift to the recipient(s), offering their thanks and showing their appreciation. This method brings the action out into the open, allowing for a friendly and appreciative interaction between the group and the recipient(s).

Also at the end of each trip if you felt your G Adventures CEO did an outstanding job tipping is appreciated. The amount is entirely a personal preference, however as a guideline $5 USD per person per day can be used.

Is there an extra cost for travelling solo? We believe single travellers should not have to pay more to travel so our group trips are designed for shared accommodation and do not involve a single supplement. Single travellers joining group trips are paired in twin or multi-share accommodation with someone of the same sex for the duration of the trip. Some of our Independent trips are designed differently and single travellers on these itineraries must pay the single trip price.
If I choose to purchase My Own Room, are there any exceptions during the trip? Please note that if you have booked the "My Own Room" option for this tour, you will receive your own single room for all night stops

The included meals were fantastic, offering an authentic taste of Taiwan beyond the standard tourist fare. The dinner focused on local cuisine near Sun Moon Lake was particularly memorable, featuring fresh, seasonal ingredients. My only suggestion would be to offer a little more variety for breakfast at some of the smaller hotels; while the local options were great, a few more Western choices for those less adventurous eaters would be helpful. I appreciated how diligently our CEO handled all the dietary restrictions in the group.

Our CEO, Lin, was an absolute gem—knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and incredibly organized. He went above and beyond, not only with the itinerary but also by sharing personal insights into Taiwanese culture and history, especially during our visit to the Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall. Lin handled a small medical situation within the group swiftly and professionally, providing translation and directions to a local clinic. His attention to detail and genuine care for the group significantly enhanced the overall experience.

Sun Moon Lake was truly breathtaking, and the optional cycling tour around the lake was an unforgettable activity. The scenery was lush and serene, and the rental bikes were of good quality. My only piece of constructive criticism is regarding the group visit to the Bunun Cultural Village; while the cultural exchange was valuable, it felt a little rushed. We could have used an extra hour there to truly soak in the traditional music and try the local millet wine.

The street food exploration led by our guide in Tainan was absolutely brilliant—a true foodie adventure. Trying local delicacies like dan-zai noodles and various oyster omelets felt authentic and exciting. My only minor critique is that one of the included lunches was a little too generic and tourist-focused; I would have preferred a more regional dish. Nonetheless, the overall commitment to showcasing the diverse, rich flavors of Taiwanese cuisine was evident and appreciated.

Our CEO was exceptional at fostering a sense of community within the group, encouraging everyone to socialize and explore together. She had fantastic, non-touristy recommendations for free-time activities, like a particular night market in Taipei and a unique coffee shop near our Tainan hotel. She was always available, but never intrusive. Her passion for her country was infectious, and her detailed local knowledge truly transformed the experience from a tour into an authentic immersion.
