Question 1

Which airport is closest to Qutang Gorge and how do I reach the entrance?

Accepted Answer

Fly into Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport, the nearest major hub. From there, take a high-speed train to Fengjie Station, which sits just minutes from the gorge. Local buses or taxis connect the station directly to the Baidi City scenic area, the primary launch point for boat tours through Qutang Gorge.

Question 2

When is the best time to visit Qutang Gorge to avoid heavy rain and crowds?

Accepted Answer

Visit during spring (April to May) or autumn (September to October) for mild weather and clear views. Avoid July and August, as this period marks the peak rainy season along the Yangtze River, increasing landslide risks and causing murky water. Winter offers dramatic mist but colder temperatures and reduced boat frequency.

Question 3

Do I need a special pass to enter Qutang Gorge or the Three Gorges Dam area?

Accepted Answer

No special regional pass exists solely for Qutang Gorge. Purchase standard entry tickets at the Baidi City visitor center or book a Yangtze River cruise that includes the stop. While the nearby Three Gorges Dam requires separate registration with a passport, Qutang Gorge access is included with your scenic area ticket or cruise package.

Question 4

What currency should I carry for small vendors near Qutang Gorge in Fengjie?

Accepted Answer

Carry Chinese Yuan (CNY) in cash, as small vendors, local eateries, and souvenir stalls near the gorge often do not accept foreign credit cards or digital payments from non-residents. While major hotels and cruise lines accept cards, having small bills ensures you can buy snacks, water, or handicrafts without issue.
