Best Perito Moreno Glacier Tours & Trips

A major tourist attraction in Argentinian Patagonia, the Perito Moreno Glacier is located in the Los Glaciares National Park in southwest Santa Cruz Province. Named after pioneer Fransisco Morena, who played an important role in shaping Argentina’s border with Chile in the 19th century, the glacier is 97 square miles (250 km) wide and 19 miles (30 km) long. Trekkers on the glacier wear crampons, traction devices worn over footwear to prevent slipping on the ice.

Happy In The Glaciar

4-Day Classic El Calafate Tour

Fell In Love With The Glaciers Thanks To Tangol!

Matieu, our guide, was warm, friendly, and so knowledgeable about patagonic nature and Argentine history. He picked us up at the airport and then dropped us off on our way back as well. We visited Perito moreno glaciar, Torres del paine and chalten. Our time at estancia cristina was so wonderful with the chef, and his team that we ended up signing up for a cooking class the next day. Everyone made us feel at home and we can't wait to return to Calafate. We highly recommend Tangol travel agency in Argentina and will never forget our amazing time in the paris of the south.

FAQs about Perito Moreno Glacier Tours

Why is the Perito Moreno Glacier famous?

Perito Moreno Glacier is famous for its breathtaking size, stunning blue ice formations, and unique advancing behavior. Unlike many glaciers around the world that are shrinking, Perito Moreno continues to move forward, causing dramatic ice calving events where huge chunks of ice break off and crash into the waters of Lago Argentino. Located in Los Glaciares National Park in Patagonia, Argentina, it is one of the few glaciers in the world that can be easily accessed and viewed from a network of walkways.

How long do you need at the Perito Moreno Glacier?

Most visitors spend around 2 to 4 hours at Perito Moreno Glacier to explore the viewing platforms, enjoy different viewpoints, and watch the glacier’s impressive ice movements. Travelers joining a guided tour from El Calafate usually spend about half a day at the glacier, while those taking a boat cruise or glacier trekking excursion may need a full day.

What is the closest city to Perito Moreno Glacier?
