Question 1

What is the best time to visit Longsheng Rice Terraces for lush green scenery?

Accepted Answer

The best time to see the Longsheng Rice Terraces in vibrant green is from late May to late August. After the spring planting season, the terraced fields fill with water and new rice shoots, creating mirror-like reflections and rich foliage. September offers golden hues as rice matures. April to May is ideal for viewing water-filled terraces pre-planting, especially around the local Spring Festival period.

Question 2

How do I get from Guilin to Longsheng Rice Terraces using public transportation?

Accepted Answer

Take a direct tourist bus from Guilin Railway Station or Tianjin Road Bus Station to Longsheng County – journey time is about 2 hours. From Longsheng County, transfer to a local minivan or scheduled shuttle to the Ping’An or Dazhai Terraces (1–1.5 hours). Buses run several times daily; purchase return tickets in advance during peak seasons to ensure availability.

Question 3

Are there entry fees or permits required to hike the Longsheng Rice Terraces?

Accepted Answer

Yes, entry to the Ping’An and Dazhai Terraces requires a ticket (100–150 CNY). This includes access to scenic trails and ethnic Zhuang or Yao villages. The fee also funds local maintenance and preservation. Tickets are checked at village entrances. Hiking between villages may require separate village permits – purchase upon arrival. Children and seniors may receive discounts with valid ID.

Question 4

What should I know about weather and clothing for visiting Longsheng in winter?

Accepted Answer

Winters (December–February) in Longsheng are cold and often damp, with temperatures ranging from 0°C to 8°C. The terraces may have frozen waterfalls or frost-covered steps at higher elevations. Wear waterproof hiking boots, thermal layers, and a wind-resistant outer shell. Ice can make trails slippery – trekking poles are recommended. Bring hand warmers and protect electronics from moisture.
