Acadia National Park was started in 1919 as Lafayette National Park from the idea of landscape architect Charles Eliot and its name was changed to in 1929 to take the name of the French colony that Maine was once included in. Its Cadillac Mountain is the tallest coastal mountain in the eastern portion of the U.S. at a height of 1,528 feet and its carriage trails were financed and designed by tycoon John D.
