Highlights

• Explore Anchorage, Alaska’s largest city, and experience the charm of this town flanked by mountains and ocean

Itinerary

Leave from the designated hotel in the morning, and start your day with a visit to the Lake Hood Seaplane Base (20 min.), the world’s busiest floatplane airport, with an average of 190 arrivals and departures each day. Then head to the northwest side of town to visit Earthquake Park and the Captain Cook Monument (about 30 min. total), the perfect place to admire and photograph the beautiful scenery of Cook Inlet. Afterwards, head over to Ship Creek and the downtown historic district (about 1 hour total) on the north side of the city, and take in views of the city skyline from the creek banks.
During the salmon run season, you also have the opportunity to view large numbers of salmon migrating up the creek. Stroll along
4th and 5th Avenue in the downtown historic district, admiring the summer street life, varied architecture and beautiful plazas. Afterwards, you can enjoy some free time here (about 2 hours), which you can use to taste some local specialties, or do some tax-free shopping in the large department stores and galleries featuring Alaska Native art. Return to the hotel around 5:00pm.
