First, visit Ephesus, an archaeological treasure and the best-preserved classical city in the Eastern Mediterranean. During the 1st century AD, Ephesus was the second-largest city in the world, after Rome, with over 250,000 citizens. It was at the crossroads of the known world and played a key role as a gateway between the East and the West. With its giant harbor, it was also a major center of trade in antiquity. Ephesus was not only a wealthy commercial city but also a place of great cultural significance, where even Mark Antony and Cleopatra spent their honeymoon. Ephesus is also home to one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the Temple of Artemis. The city is so well-preserved that walking among its ancient streets and beautiful monuments—such as the third-largest library of the ancient world and the largest Roman theater in Asia—makes you feel like a time traveler.
Next, visit the House of the Virgin Mary, located 6 kilometers north of the ruins of Ephesus. A church was built on the foundations of a 1st-century house, and it is declared by the church to be the final house where Mary spent her last days. It is also believed that the Assumption of Mary took place there on August 15th.
After lunch, continue to the Temple of Artemis. The Temple of Artemis, or Artemision, was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Its ancient cult dedicated to Artemis was famous in antiquity, making Ephesus a major pilgrimage site. The temple originally featured 127 Ionic columns, each 19 meters tall. The Temple of Artemis is also considered one of the earliest banks of the ancient world. At the end of the tour, you'll be driven back to your departure point.
