After an early start, you leave the city and travel along the Great Glen Fault Line towards Loch Ness. Here, you have a chance to spot the monster and admire the beauty of the dark waters of the legendary loch. Then we continue through the West Highlands, past the iconic, rugged mountains of the Five Sisters of Kintail to the picturesque Eilean Donan Castle, with opportunities for photo stops and short breaks along the way.
Perched on a small island, Eilean Donan Castle is a famous movie location with a rich history. You can take a stroll along the shore for a view of the castle, or explore its chambers to learn more about its past. Next, we cross the Skye Bridge and arrive on Skye, an island of rugged beauty and ancient mystery, where towering mountains meet moors, and misty cliffs rise above emerald seas. We continue up the east coast, past the Red Cuillin Mountains, to Sligachan, where you can take a photo of the crystal-clear mountain waters and hear a local legend—one that may encourage you to dip your face into the stream. But that's a story for another time.
We travel to Portree, the picturesque capital of the island, known for its colorful harbourside cottages and vibrant atmosphere. Enjoy lunch and a leisurely stroll along the charming harbour, soaking in stunning views of the bay. Next, we head to the Trotternish Peninsula, with its surreal rock formations, rugged cliffs, and vast, wild landscapes. The driver-guide will take you to some of the most iconic places in this part of Skye, so you may marvel at geological wonders like the Old Man of Storr, Kilt Rock, and the dramatic Quiraing pass. We then loop through the north, stop in a village for afternoon refreshements, before heading to the south to Kyleakin, taking in breathtaking vistas along the way.
In Kyleakin, there's time to enjoy refreshments and take in the dramatic ruins of Castle Moil, the iconic Skye Bridge, and the tranquil beauty of Eilean Bàn. As we bid farewell to the Misty Isle, we cross the bridge back to mainland Scotland, carrying memories of Skye's enchanting landscapes.
Our journey continues past the shimmering waters of Loch Carron, through expansive moorlands and past streams winding through the untamed wilderness of Wester Ross. These breathtaking scenes provide the perfect finale to a day that feels like stepping into a dream, as we make our way back to Inverness.
You return to Inverness at approximately 8pm.
