Itinerary

Itinerary:  Anchorage – Matanuska Glacier – Anchorage (about 7-8 hours round trip)
Details: In the morning, depart from hotel and travel to Matanuska Glacier, where you’ll take a walk on the glacier (about 2 hours) led by a professional guide. The Matanuska Glacier, Alaska's largest accessible glacier, covers an entire valley. Winding north from the Chugach Mountains to the Glen Highway, it is the most popular roadside attraction between Anchorage and Glenallen. About 10,000 years ago, the Matanuska Glacier began to retreat to its present position, and has not changed significantly in nearly two decades. It is ideal for glacier hiking as it tends to be sunnier than the surrounding area in winter.

Notes:
1)
Please bring a warm down jacket, fleece jacket, hat, scarf, boots with traction, sunglasses, etc.
2) To participate in the walk you must sign the disclaimer required by the park management office and comply with the guide’s instructions.
3) Helmets, anti-skid shoe chains, and other hiking equipment is provided for free.

Tips
* If you plan to take a flight on the same day as the tour ends, to avoid the risk of missing your flight, please make sure to book a departure flight after 10:00 PM during the summer season (May 18 to August 31), and after 9:00 PM during the winter season (September 1 to March 31 of the following year).
