This quaint Maine destination's name means "beautiful place by the sea" in the Native American Abenaki language and that phrase has also been adopted at the town's motto. Ogunquit was originally part of the town of Wells, which was established in 1643. Shipbuilding and fishing have long been common trades in Ogunquit.
