The town of Midland is situated at the southern end of Georgian Bay's 30,000 islands and is the main town of the southern Georgian Bay area. Midland was founded in 1871 , due to the completion of the Midland Railway of Canada, which was completed in 1854. Midland is known as a tourist area; during the summer, the population increases to more than 100,000 and is home to more than 80,000 cottage homes.
