Question 1

What is the best time of year to visit Yehliu Geopark to avoid crowds and rain?

Accepted Answer

Visit between October and April for cooler, drier weather ideal for hiking the coastal trails. Avoid the typhoon season from June to September, as heavy rains make the rocky paths slippery and dangerous. Weekday mornings right at opening time offer the fewest crowds before tour buses arrive from Taipei.

Question 2

How do I get to Yehliu Geopark from Taipei using public transportation?

Accepted Answer

Take the MRT to Tamsui Station, then transfer to bus 936 or 938 directly to the park entrance. Alternatively, take a train to Keelung Station and catch bus 1815. The journey takes about 90 minutes total. Do not rely on taxis for the return trip late in the day, as availability drops significantly after sunset.

Question 3

Are there entry fees or local passes required to enter Yehliu Geopark?

Accepted Answer

Yes, an entrance fee is required for all visitors aged six and older. Cash is preferred at the ticket booth, though some digital payment options exist. No specific local travel pass covers this fee exclusively. Students and seniors should bring valid ID for discounted rates. Tickets are valid for same-day re-entry if you leave for lunch nearby.

Question 4

Is it safe to climb on the famous Queen's Head rock formation at Yehliu?

Accepted Answer

No, climbing on the Queen's Head or any hoodoo formation is strictly prohibited to prevent erosion and damage. Rangers actively monitor the site and will issue fines for violations. View the formation from the designated wooden boardwalks and viewing platforms. Respect barriers, as the soft sandstone crumbles easily under human weight.
