The Canadian resort town in the Coast Mountains draws many tourists with more than two million people visiting per year for skiing, snowboarding and other recreational activities. Whistler was explored by British Naval officers in the 1860s and named London Mountain. It earned its name Whistler from the whistling sound made by the hoary marmots.
