Question 1

Is Tangier safe for tourists?

Accepted Answer

Yes, Tangier is generally safe for tourists. Standard precautions apply—avoid poorly lit areas at night and keep valuables secure. The city sees frequent police patrols in tourist zones like the Medina and Kasbah. Petty crime like pickpocketing occurs rarely but is more common in crowded markets. Stay alert, use licensed taxis, and respect local customs to ensure a smooth visit.

Question 2

How do I get from Tangier Ibn Battuta Airport (TNG) to the city center?

Accepted Answer

Take the ALSA or CTM bus from the airport to Tangier Ville (train station) for 20–30 MAD (under 15 minutes, every 30 mins). Alternatively, use a regulated airport taxi with a meter, fixed rate is around 100 MAD to the medina. Avoid unlicensed drivers. For convenience, pre-book a private transfer via reputable services.

Question 3

What is the best time to visit Tangier for pleasant weather and fewer crowds?

Accepted Answer

Visit Tangier between April–June or September–October. Temperatures range from 18°C to 26°C, ideal for sightseeing. July and August are hot (up to 30°C) and crowded. The rainy season runs November–February, with occasional downpours. Spring offers blooming gardens; autumn provides calm seas and lower hotel rates.

Question 4

Do I need a visa to visit Tangier, and what currency should I bring?

Accepted Answer

Most Western nationals (EU, US, UK, Canada) need no visa for stays up to 90 days. Always carry a passport. Morocco’s currency is the Moroccan Dirham (MAD) – it’s illegal to import or export more than 2,000 MAD. Withdraw cash at ATMs in Tangier Ville or use euros in a pinch (less favorable rates). Change only at official exchange bureaus or banks.
