This gorgeous Southern city situated along the Savannah River features historic architecture, Spanish moss-draped trees, beautiful gardens and charming residents. Savannah was settled in 1733 by British General James Oglethorpe. The 1994 non-fiction book "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" by John Berendt brought an influx of tourists to the city during the 1990s.
