Question 1

What is the best time of year to visit the Pinnacles in Nambung National Park?

Accepted Answer

Visit between late February and May for comfortable temperatures and wildflowers, or September to November to avoid summer heat. Winter months offer cooler days but can be rainy. Summer temperatures often exceed 30°C, making midday exploration difficult. Early mornings provide the best light for photography and fewer crowds year-round.

Question 2

How do I get from Perth Airport to Cervantes and the Pinnacles?

Accepted Answer

Rent a car at Perth Airport for the most flexibility; the drive to Cervantes takes approximately 2.5 hours via Indian Ocean Drive. No direct public transport reaches the park entrance. Guided day tours depart daily from Perth and include hotel pickup, offering a stress-free alternative for those unwilling to drive on rural highways.

Question 3

Is there an entry fee for Nambung National Park and how do I pay?

Accepted Answer

Yes, a vehicle entry fee applies. Purchase your Parks Pass online before arrival, at the Nambung Pinnacles Desk in Cervantes, or via the machine at the park gate. Credit cards are accepted at machines and the visitor center. The pass also grants access to other nearby parks like Kalbarri if you choose a multi-park option.

Question 4

What should I wear and bring for walking among the limestone formations?

Accepted Answer

Wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes as the terrain is uneven, sandy, and sharp underfoot. Bring sun protection including a hat, sunglasses, and high-SPF sunscreen due to minimal shade. Carry at least two liters of water per person, especially in warmer months. Binoculars are useful for spotting emus and kangaroos that frequent the area.
