Question 1

How to reach Munnar from Cochin International Airport?

Accepted Answer

Munnar is 110 km from Cochin International Airport (Nedumbassery). Hire a taxi directly from the airport – the drive takes 3–4 hours through winding ghat roads. Pre-paid taxis are available outside arrivals. Alternatively, take a bus to Udumpanchola or Aluva and then a taxi to Munnar, but direct taxis are more convenient and time-efficient.

Question 2

What is the best time to visit Munnar?

Accepted Answer

The best time to visit Munnar is from September to March. During these months, the weather is cool and pleasant, with temperatures ranging from 10°C to 22°C. The monsoon season (June–August and October–November) brings heavy rains, while April–May can be warm, but tea gardens remain lush and green.

Question 3

Are there any regional permits or fees required to visit Munnar’s hill stations like Top Station or Eravikulam National Park?

Accepted Answer

No special permits are required for Indian nationals to visit Top Station or Eravikulam National Park. However, a nominal entry fee applies – ₹50–150 for adults, ₹25–75 for children. Foreign tourists pay higher fees (₹200–400). Park timings are 7 AM–4 PM; check seasonal closures during monsoon for safety.

Question 4

Is the Munnar–Marayoor road open year-round, and what are the conditions?

Accepted Answer

The Munnar–Marayoor road (State Highway 17) typically remains open year-round, but landslides during monsoon (June–September) may cause temporary closures. The 50 km route is scenic and well-paved but includes narrow, winding stretches. Drive cautiously, especially at night. Check Kerala PWD updates before travel during heavy rains.
