A sprawling lake of 19.71 km2, Maligne Lake, also known as Medicine Lake, is Jasper National Park's premiere lakes and one of the most popular in the Canadian Rockies, just behind Lake Louise and Moraine Lake. Home to everything from grizzly bears to bald eagles, the lake is most notable for Spirit Island, a small but beloved and photogenic island here. Just south of Jasper, one can easily visit the lake by car or shuttle bus, and there are numerous enchanting Maligne Lake cruises to take visitors to the lovely Spirit Island.
