Long Island is an island in the state of New York that stretches northeast into the Atlantic Ocean. Long Island was originally inhabited by the Lenape people, a Native American Tribe until European settlers inhabited the island in 1637. It is one of the most densely populated regions in the U.S. and is home to 39% of the population of the state of New York. The New York Mets regularly play at the City Field in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park located in Queens, and LaGuardia Airport and JFK International Airport are two major New York airports also located in Long Island.
