Halong is located in northern Vietnam. It is the capital city of Quang Ninh Province and serves as the main gateway to the renowned World Heritage Site of Halong Bay. The city is divided into two main areas: Bai Chay and Hon Gai, which are connected by the Bai Chay Bridge. Bai Chay is primarily focused on tourism, featuring numerous hotels, restaurants, and piers. It serves as the main departure point for visitors embarking on Halong Bay cruises. Hon Gai, meanwhile, functions as the local administrative and commercial center. If you're about to head to Halong Bay from here, here's what you need to know.

Best Time to Visit

October through April offer the best visiting opportunities, with March to April and October to November being off-peak seasons when you'll encounter fewer crowds. Avoid traveling from June to August, as this period is prone to sudden heavy rainfall and tropical storms.

Get to know Halong Bay

The primary reason people visit Halong is Halong Bay, one of Vietnam's most renowned natural wonders. Famous for its spectacular limestone karst formations, the bay is dotted with over 2,000 limestone islands of diverse shapes, resembling a giant maze of rocks floating on emerald waters. You can take a cruise or a luxury cruise ship to admire the bizarre rock formations, limestone caves, secluded beaches, and fishing village scenery.
