FAQs about Grand Egyptian Museum Tours

Will the Grand Egyptian Museum ever open?

Yes, it has already opened. After many years of delays, the Grand Egyptian Museum was officially inaugurated on November 1, 2025, and opened to the public shortly after. Today, visitors can fully explore the museum, which is now the largest archaeological museum in the world dedicated to a single civilization, showcasing over 100,000 artifacts, including the complete treasures of Tutankhamun.

How do I get from central Cairo to the Grand Egyptian Museum?

Take the Cairo Metro Line 2 (Sadat Station) to Giza, then transfer to the new monorail at Al-Haram Station, which stops directly at the museum. Alternatively, a 30-minute taxi ride from Tahrir Square costs approximately 150–250 EGP. Ride-hailing apps like Uber are reliable and metered.

What time should I arrive to avoid crowds at the Grand Egyptian Museum?

Arrive at opening time (9:00 AM) to avoid crowds, especially on weekends and holidays. Mornings are cooler and less busy than afternoons. Booking a timed-entry ticket online in advance ensures priority access and reduces wait times at security checkpoints.

Is photography allowed inside the Grand Egyptian Museum?

Yes, non-flash photography is permitted in most public galleries for personal use. Tripods and professional equipment require prior permission. Flash and video recording are prohibited in the Tutankhamun wing and around fragile papyri to preserve artifacts.
