Gardens of Versailles Tours

Best Gardens Of Versailles Tours & Trips

Nearly 2,000 acres of grandiose gardens including more than 2,000 trees, 2,000 flowers, 50 fountains and a stunning Grand Canal await visitors to the Gardens of Versailles that were originally designed by gardener Andre Le Nôtre in 1661. Louis XIV commissioned the vast gardens to be created at the same time the luxurious palace was being built and felt the surrounding greenery was just as integral at the royal chateau. Points of interest are The Orangerie, Grand Canal, The Queen's Grove, The Ballroom, Latona Fountain, Mirror Fountain and Grotte des Bains d’Apollon.

Winter 2026/2027
During winter (December–February), the Gardens of Versailles transform into a serene, frost-kissed landscape with temperatures averaging 2–7°C (36–45°F). Though quieter, the gardens remain open, offering crisp morning strolls along the Grand Canal and past dormant groves dusted with frost. The Palace's ornate fountains rest, but seasonal light displays and the Christmas market near the Royal Estate add festive charm. Nearby attractions like the Petit Trianon and the Queen’s Hamlet retain their pastoral allure, ideal for reflective walks. With fewer crowds, winter provides an intimate experience of Louis XIV’s opulent landscape, where symmetry and nature blend in quiet elegance.

7-Day European Highlights Tour from London: Lake Titisee, Rhine Falls, Mt Titlis, Eiffel Tower and River Seine | Vegetarian-friendly

An Unforgettable Experience

This tour was a dream! We got to see some of Europe’s best spots, including the Eiffel Tower and Rhine Falls. The meals were delicious, especially the Indian dinners. Mt Titlis was incredible, and the Geneva tour was a great addition. The coach was comfortable, and we had free time to explore places like Lucerne and Interlaken.

Versailles Small Group Tour w/ Skip-the-Line Access **Pick-up at Paris City Center Hotels || UNESCO World Heritage**

Everything was right on time. The guide was outstanding. She made her way through Paris traffic with real knowledge of where we we were going. I had a friend who just bought a skip the line ticket. He still had to wait two hours to get in. It was not that way with your tour. I will easily use your tours again ( I have already passed your web address to my neighbor who is going to Paris in August).

FAQs about Gardens Of Versailles Tours

What is the best time of year to visit the Gardens of Versailles to avoid crowds and enjoy good weather?

Visit the Gardens of Versailles in late April to early May or September for mild weather and fewer tourists. Avoid July and August when crowds peak. Early mornings on weekdays offer the calmest experience. The gardens are less crowded during the shoulder seasons while still providing pleasant conditions for walking and sightseeing.

How do I get from Paris to the Gardens of Versailles using public transportation?

Take the RER C line from central Paris (e.g., Saint-Michel–Notre-Dame) to Versailles Château Rive Gauche station – the trip takes about 40 minutes. From the station, follow signs to the palace; it’s a 10-minute walk. Purchase a Île-de-France travel pass for seamless access across trains and zones.

Is there an entrance fee for the Gardens of Versailles, and when is it free?

Access to the main gardens is free daily, except during fountain and musical garden events (mid-April to mid-October). During events, entry costs €10. The park surrounding the gardens is always free. Admission to the Palace of Versailles is separate; EU residents under 26 get free palace entry, but garden access during events still requires a ticket.

Are the fountains at the Gardens of Versailles operational year-round?

The fountains operate from mid-March to early November. From mid-April to mid-October, they run on weekends and during Musical Fountains Shows. From late May to early October, they also flow on Tuesdays. During winter months, only limited fountain displays run on special request or private events.
