Question 1

Which airport is closest to Du Fu Thatched Cottage and how do I get there?

Accepted Answer

Chengdu Tianfu International Airport is the main hub, but Shuangliu International Airport is closer to the city center. From Shuangliu, take Metro Line 10 to Line 3, then transfer to Line 4 at Chunxi Road. Exit at Caotang Road North Station for a short walk. The trip takes about 50 minutes. From Tianfu, expect a 90-minute journey using Metro Line 18 and transfers. Taxis are available but face heavy traffic during peak hours.

Question 2

When is the best time to visit Du Fu Thatched Cottage to avoid rain and crowds?

Accepted Answer

Visit between March and May or September to November for mild weather and blooming gardens. Avoid July and August, as Chengdu experiences its heavy monsoon season with frequent, intense downpours that can disrupt outdoor tours. Weekdays early in the morning offer the fewest crowds. The Plum Blossom Festival in late winter is popular but busy. Always check the local forecast before traveling, as sudden showers occur even in dry months.

Question 3

Do I need a special pass to enter Du Fu Thatched Cottage or can I use a city tourist card?

Accepted Answer

General admission requires a separate ticket purchased online or at the gate; it is not included in the standard Chengdu City Tourist Pass. However, seniors over 60 and children under 1.3 meters often enter free with valid ID. Book tickets via the official WeChat mini-program to skip lines. The museum complex includes multiple halls and gardens, so allocate at least two hours. Audio guides are available in English for an extra fee to enhance your understanding of Tang Dynasty history.

Question 4

What are the strict rules regarding photography and behavior inside the museum grounds?

Accepted Answer

Photography is permitted in outdoor gardens and most halls, but flash and tripods are strictly prohibited inside exhibition rooms to protect ancient artifacts. Do not touch displays, carve on bamboo, or feed the koi fish. Smoking is banned throughout the entire heritage site. Visitors must maintain a quiet demeanor to respect the literary significance of the poet Du Fu. Large backpacks may need storage at the entrance. Violating these rules can result in immediate ejection without refund.
