The town of Canmore, located in Alberta, Canada is situated southeast of the Banff National Park, also located in the Alberta's Rockies. The town was officially name Canmore in 1884 by Canadian Pacific Railway director Donald A. Smith. The town is known for its coal mining history; the first coal mining charter was granted by Queen Victoria in 1886. There are restrictions for future rural development due to its climate and geographic location. The town is home to many resorts and attracts many to join snow sports such as skiing and snowboarding.

The most significant highlight is the Larch Season, typically in late September to early October, when the needles of the deciduous larch trees turn a brilliant gold before dropping. This creates a stunning contrast against the dark evergreen and rock, drawing hikers to specific trails like Chester Lake to witness the foliage. The comfortable air temperatures are perfect for less crowded hiking and scenic drives along the Smith Dorrien Trail to admire the golden peaks. We had a wonderful time on this tour to the lake in Jasper! Our guide was fantastic, clearly passionate about the area, sharing so much interesting history along the way, from how the lake was formed to the stories behind the surrounding landmarks. The winter lakes and mountains of Banff are absolutely worth the visit. Rachel advised us to bring slip‑on ice grips, which made walking to the lake for photos much safer. Natural Bridge and Emerald Lake were both unique. Though busy, the photo spots were well spaced, so we still had a great experience.
