Badlands National Park was established in 1939 as a national monument and re-designated in 1978. Deposition and erosion formed the Badlands about 69 million years ago. Park wildlife includes 39 mammal species, 206 bird species, nine reptile species, six amphibian species and 69 butterfly species. It also contains many fossils including evidence of an ancient sea in the area.

The 13 days flew by. We hiked a total of 25 miles across 8 parks. My legs were tired but happy. The guide took us to a local BBQ restaurant in Moab on day 4 and the brisket was delicious. The only hiccup: the hotel in Las Vegas on the first night was far from the Strip. But we were too tired to go out anyway.
