Question 1

How do I get from Rome to Assisi using public transportation?

Accepted Answer

Take a train from Rome Termini Station to Foligno or Terontola, the two closest major stations to Assisi. From there, transfer to a local Umbria Mobilità bus directly to Assisi’s town center. The total journey takes about 2.5 to 3 hours. Schedule check-ins advance, as connections are limited on weekends.

Question 2

Is the Assisi Pass worth it for a one-day visit?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the Assisi City Pass offers skip-the-line access to key sites like the Basilica of Saint Francis, Cathedral of San Rufino, and Rocca Maggiore. At €18 for 24 hours, it saves time and money if visiting 3 or more attractions, especially during peak season. Purchase at the tourism office near Piazza del Comune.

Question 3

When is the best time to visit Assisi to avoid crowds and rain?

Accepted Answer

Visit Assisi between mid-April and mid-June or September to October for mild weather and fewer tourists. Spring offers blooming landscapes; autumn provides harvest festivals. Avoid July and August peak heat and August pilgrimage crowds. The rainy season typically peaks November to early February.

Question 4

Can I wear shorts when visiting religious sites in Assisi?

Accepted Answer

Shorts are not allowed inside the Basilica of Saint Francis and other churches in Assisi. Both men and women must cover shoulders and knees. Carry a lightweight scarf or shawl for modesty. Violators may be denied entry, especially during Mass or high season, so dress respectfully.
