Best Cusco Tours & Trips

One-time capital of the extensive Inca Empire, this city is one of the best places in Peru to witness the glory of this ancient civilization. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site together with the nearby ancient citadel of Sacsayhuaman. Cusco retains the ruins of many pre-Columbian buildings in addition to many impressive Spanish colonial edifices. The picturesque center of the city was built on pre-Columbian foundations, and features many historic plazas, streets and churches, as well as many present-day artisans, workshops and craft shops.

Take A Trip Back Into History On A Splendid Cusco Tour

Machu Picchu

Sacred Valley

And Beyond

Machu Picchu

Gaze back in time upon the splendor of the Inca Empire as you enter the Lost City through the Sun Gate. Beautifully preserved ruins of palaces, baths, temples, storage rooms and roughly 150 houses help you understand and appreciate the Inca way of life.

Machu Picchu tours from Cusco take you there on comfortable sightseeing buses, but for the more adventurous travelers there are Cusco Inca Trail tours to Machu Picchu. You start in the unbelievably verdant Urubamba Valley and make your way through jungle and hilly terrain past other little-known ruins and tunnels.

Sacred Valley

The heart of the Inca Empire was formed by Cusco, Machu Picchu and the beautiful Sacred Valley. A Cusco Sacred Valley tour is usually a part of Peru tours through the area. The Sacred Valley holds many Inca ruins, Pisac being one of the most outstanding among them.

Your tour will take you to the ancient hilltop Inca citadel overlooking the fertile Sacred Valley. The traditional markets of Pisac are great places to purchase authentic handmade souvenirs and get caught up in the rich culture of the indigenous people.

And Beyond

Cusco is not only the gateway to Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley, but also the perfect passageway to explore the rest of Peru. One of the most popular attractions from Cusco is Lake Titicaca.

South America’s largest lake and quite possibly its most beautiful, Lake Titicaca sits high in the Andes Mountains on the Peru-Bolivia border. Its amazingly blue waters are attributed to its great depth. Lake Titicaca is a popular tourist spot and many visitors come to see the ruins on its islands and interact with the indigenous people who still retain much of their Inca culture.

From Lake Titicaca, many tours continue on to Peru’s neighbour, Bolivia. You can book a tour package to travel to Bolivia and enjoy breathtaking mountain views as you travel from Lake Titicaca to Bolivia’s capital, La Paz. On Witches Street you can interact with the friendly locals and purchase souvenirs to “ward off evil spirits.” While in La Paz, take the time to enjoy a Peña show featuring Andean music and dance with local musicians playing on traditional instruments.

Best Time to Visit Cusco

Winter 2026/2027
Rainy season peaks in these high-Andean months, and the Cusco region shifts into lush, cloud-pierced green. Daytime highs stay around 17-18 °C (63-64 °F) in the city, while nights remain cold, often falling to 6-7 °C (43-45 °F) and lower at altitude. Afternoon showers - often heavy - are common between December and February, especially in the Sacred Valley and high puna zones. While some treks (such as sections of the Inca Trail) may be closed or slippery, the mood of the region transforms: glowing landscapes after rain, rainbow arcs over Machu Picchu, and fewer tourists in major sites. Expect some disruption from weather, bring waterproof gear and flexible plans, but you’ll find vivid skies, dazzling greenery and the cultural core of the region in a more relaxed state.

Spring 2026
As the austral autumn deepens into spring in the Andes, Cusco region begins to transition from its heaviest rains toward clearer skies. Daytime highs climb gradually from around 18 °C (64 °F) in March into the low 20s by May, while nights remain chilly, often dropping below 6-8 °C (43-46 °F). The rain-soaked landscape of the Sacred Valley and highland trails such as the Inca Trail begins to dry out, the cloud cover eases, and sites like Machu Picchu and the ruins around Ollantaytambo emerge from misty mornings full of luminous green. With fewer tourists than the peak dry-season months, this is a good time to enjoy places like the valley around Pisac or the high puna around Ausangate with more breathing room. Bring layers for both sunny afternoons and cold mornings, and prepare for the occasional afternoon shower in March.

Summer 2026
In the heart of the dry season, the Cusco highlands enjoy their sunniest and most stable weather. Daytime highs typically reach 18-20 °C (64-68 °F) but because of the clear skies the sun can feel much warmer, while nights dip sharply - often approaching 0-2 °C (32-36 °F) in July at higher altitude. This is prime time for trekking the Inca Trail, hiking to Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca) or exploring the alpine lakes around the Sacred Valley without the risk of heavy rain. The skies are often brilliant blue, providing majestic views of sites such as Sacsayhuamán, the Salt Mines of Maras and the terraces at Moray. Because this is the peak tourism period, book accommodations early around Cusco city or in the Vilcanota valley. However, despite the warm days, evenings and high-altitude mornings are very cold - a warm jacket is essential.

Autumn 2026
As the Andes slide toward the wetter months, autumn in the Cusco region brings a lovely blend of clarity and changing light. Early September still offers mostly dry conditions with daytime temperatures around 18-20 °C (64-68 °F) and nights up to - depending on altitude - 4-8 °C (39-46 °F). By October and into November, rainfall begins to increase as the region transitions toward its wet season. For travellers, this is a sweet-spot: trails are still largely accessible, the landscapes begin to re-green, and crowds begin to thin after the peak summer months. It’s a superb time to explore the high valleys around Chinchero or Urubamba, and to linger in Cusco’s historic centre without the busy rush. Visit Rio-Urubamba boat rides, sunset views over the saltpans of Maras, or night strolls through Cusco’s colonial-Inca blend architecture in more comfortable numbers.

3-Day Puno &Titicaca Islands Tour from Cusco: Titicaca Lake, Uros and Taquile

I loved how immersive this trip felt from start to finish. The historical visit to Andahuaylillas was fascinating, and Raqchi’s Inca ruins were far more impressive than expected. Cruising on Lake Titicaca was calm and scenic. Taquile Island’s traditional lifestyle and panoramic lake views made the journey unforgettable.
