Senso Ji Temple Tours & Guided Trips

Located in Tokyo’s historic Asakusa district, Senso-ji is the city’s oldest and most visited temple, welcoming over 30 million visitors annually. Founded in 645 AD, this Buddhist temple is dedicated to Kannon, the goddess of mercy, and remains an active place of worship and cultural landmark. The approach to the temple is lined with shops along Nakamise Street, where visitors can sample traditional snacks like ningyo-yaki (sweet cakes) and shop for souvenirs. The massive red Kaminarimon Gate, with its iconic giant paper lantern, is one of the most photographed spots in Tokyo. Inside, the temple grounds include a five-story pagoda, tranquil gardens, and spots where locals and tourists alike participate in customs like drawing omikuji (fortune slips) or wafting incense smoke for good luck. Senso-ji is open year-round and particularly popular during events like Sanja Matsuri in May and New Year celebrations, when crowds gather to pray for good fortune. Just a short ride from central Tokyo, Senso-ji offers a vivid window into Japan’s spiritual heritage in the heart of the capital.

13-Day Traditional and Cultural Japan Unrivalled Tour from Tokyo: Hakone, Isawa, Matsumoto, Takayama, Hiroshima, Miyajima, Kyoto and Osaka

Perfect Mix of Tradition & Modern Japan!

Hakone's hot springs and Mt Fuji views from the ropeway were amazing. Hiroshima's peace park was moving, and Miyajima's floating torii gate looked straight out of a postcard. Got to try Hida beef in Takayama—so tender! Guides knew all the best spots.

14-Day Japan Tour from Tokyo to Hiroshima: Hakone, Takayama, Kyoto, Osaka and Nara

Fantastic

This was a fantastic 14 day tour of Japan which I would wholly recommend. The amount of activities we managed to fit into the time was incredible, the accommodation was good and the ratio of free time to group time was right. We saw so much and I really don’t feel like there is anything big that we missed. Alyssa was a fantastic guide, genuinely. She kept us on time, was knowledgable, friendly and really easy to get along with! The trip would not have been as good without her, I know that. PS this trip is fast paced and you walk a lot so be ready for that - but if you have a reasonable level of walking fitness and are ready to go explore all that Japan has to offer for a great price, don’t hesitate to book this tour.

17-Day Enchanting Japan Adventure Small Group Tour from Tokyo: Nagano, Hakone, Osaka, Koyasan, Kyoto, Nara, Hiroshima and Miyajima Island

I had such a memorable time on this Japan tour!

The highlights for me were the visit to Koyasan and its spiritual atmosphere, along with the scenic beauty of Hakone. Hiroshima's Peace Memorial Park was deeply moving. Our guide was knowledgeable, and having 19 meals included was a great bonus – it made the trip worry-free when it came to dining. This was my first time traveling with a small group, and it made the experience more intimate and enjoyable.
