Departing Melbourne at around 10:00 AM, the tour begins with panoramic views of the city and Port Phillip Bay as you cross the Westgate Bridge, Australia's longest bridge at just under 2.6 kilometres. Passing Victoria's second-largest city, Geelong, you'll head towards the Surf Coast, known for its charming beachside towns and powerful ocean swells.
Stop briefly at Anglesea, where you can take a walk alongside the scenic Anglesea River, before continuing the journey along the Great Ocean Road.
At Kennett River, enjoy a lunch break (own expense) and an opportunity to stroll among eucalyptus trees to spot wild koalas in their natural habitat. Numerous sightings are guaranteed.
From here, the tour travels through the Otway Ranges to the Shipwreck Coast and the iconic rock formations of the Port Campbell National Park.
The first stop is Loch Ard Gorge, where your guide will recount the dramatic tale of the 1878 shipwreck of the Loch Ard. Despite ongoing construction closures near the Upper Lookout, you'll explore other fascinating viewpoints and rock formations like the Razorback, Dumpling Pots, and the Island Archway.
As the sun begins to set, head to the Twelve Apostles, where you'll witness the stunning transformation of the landscape in the evening light. The changing colours of the sky provide a magnificent backdrop to these iconic rock formations.
On the return journey, the group stops for dinner (own expense) in the regional town of Colac, before continuing to Melbourne. Enjoy the illuminated city skyline as you cross the Westgate Bridge and are dropped off at your inner-city accommodation.
This memorable day will surely be a highlight of your Australian holiday.
