Located in northern Gifu Prefecture, the city center of Hida-Takayama has preserved the layout of a castle town and merchant district since the Edo period, earning it the nickname "Little Kyoto of Hida."Walk through the historic Sanmachi area, built during the Meiji and Taisho eras, and enjoy local delicacies such as Hida Beef and Takayama Ramen. The town is full of charm, featuring artisanal crafts that showcase the skills of Hida craftsmen.
The old streets of Takayama, known as Sanmachi, include Ichinomachi, Ninomachi, and Sannomachi. The historic buildings and streets evoke the classical atmosphere of Kyoto. Edo-style townhouses line the streets with small streams in front of the houses, transporting visitors back 400 years.

Shirakawa-go is surrounded by mountains with rice fields stretching across the valley and gentle rivers flowing through, earning it the nickname "Kingdom of Forests and Streams." The Ogimachi village in Shirakawa-go is the largest of the three World Heritage-listed villages in the region (Shirakawa-go, Ainokura, and Suganuma), with 152 households.
The village name comes from the Daisekigawa River, which turns milky-white after merging with the Shogawa River, originating from Mount Hakusan. From the Shiroyama Observatory in the northeast of Ogimachi, you can enjoy panoramic views of the entire Gassho village and the surrounding mountains.
