• Experience visiting two World Heritage Sites, Shirakawago and the Suganuma Village in Gokayama!
• Visit Suganuma which is a small village with barely changed scenic views for hundreds of years.
• This is a popular tour departing from Takayama. Booking early is recommended!
First, we will depart to Suganuma Village. Take a walk around the beautiful village. There are 9 Gassho-style houses, two of which have been standing since the latter years of the Edo Period (about mid-19th century), six of which have been around since the Meiji Period, and the 'newest' one which was built during the Taisho Period (1925).
And, as the traditional structures like earthen and wooden storehouses, as well as natural resources such as hayfields and woods that guard against snow, are designated as part of a historic site, this village, unlike others, is not a touristy site, which is part of its charm. Unlike other Gassho-style villages, Suganuma offers a simple Gokayama scenery untouched by the modern world.
While at Tenshukaku, the only restaurant that offers panoramic views of Shirakawago, savor dishes of delicious local cuisine.
After lunch, we will go to Shirakawago and Gasshozukuri Minkaen Outdoor Museum.
Shirakawago was registered as a World Heritage Site in 1995. Here, visitors can see 114 thatched roof houses in nostalgic scenery; it feels as if they've traveled back in time to an ancient world. Enjoy free time walking around the village on your own.
The tour will end at Takayama Nohi Bus Center at 16:15, or you can be dropped off at Hida Hotel Plaza 5 minutes earlier.
