7-Day Isle of Wight, Stonehenge, and Cornwall Tour from London

Get your sunglasses and sun cream ready. We'll be embarking on an incredible journey to the sunny, southern Isle of Wight. First, we'll make our way to storied Portsmouth, a bustling port fusing modern marvels with centuries of seafaring lore. You can grab a bite to eat here (own expense) before your guide picks you up and takes you to the ferry at Gunwarf Terminal. Even if you're not a sea-loving, fish-catching ocean dweller, you'll still find the ferry thoroughly enjoyable. It takes less than an hour and there's plenty of on board refreshments available for purchase. Your first stop on the Isle of Wight is the religious site of Quarr Abbey, combining French, Byzantine, and Moorish designs. Then, you get to meet some real local heroes at the Bembridge Lifeboat station, where the crew rescue troubled lives out at sea every year. Time to give them a salute. In the evening, you arrive at the unforgettably quaint village of Shanklin in time for an early dinner (own expense). Perhaps it's time to try the seafood?

On Day 2, we'll discover the unmissable highlights of the Isle of Wight. Following the included breakfast at the B'n'B, we'll venture out to the Yarborough Monument, the tallest monument on the island, celebrating the life of a wealthy earl from the 19th century. We'll make a photo stop at the endless green fields of Brading Downs and then head to Osborne House, Queen Victoria's holiday home. As you explore the Italian-style building, you discover pristine green gardens, ornate golden rooms, and historically fascinating artifacts. Next stop is the Isle of Wight's most beautiful natural wonder: the Needles. These sharp white stacks that stick out of the ocean are beautiful to behold. You can hop on a boat to get even closer, and venture to an old defensive battery nearby. Our last stop of the day the cliffs of St. Catherine's Down. As the sun starts to set, these epic cliffs and green valleys look stunning. We'll travel back to Shanklin just in time for dinner (own expense).

We've saved some of the best sights for Day 3. In the morning, say goodbye to Shanklin and board the ferry to Portsmouth. After you've reacquainted yourself with the mainland, we'll take you to one of England's most history-filled cities: Winchester. There's a glorious cathedral, an ancient mill, cute cafes, and several fascinating museums. Then we'll travel to an equally profound place: the standing stone circles of Stonehenge, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. At the award-winning visitor center, you can view the exhibition of hundreds of prehistoric items from the Stonehenge collection. By joining the land train shuttle, you make your way to the world-famous stone circles. We then travel to Exeter, an important fortified settlement in Roman times, and your base for two nights.

Your morning is spent exploring the magnificent wilderness of Dartmoor, the ancient Clapper Bridge at Postbridge and the historic market town of Tavistock, home to Sir Francis Drake. Return to Exeter in the early afternoon to explore this Roman town, with its underground passages, ancient walls, Royal Albert Memorial Museum and its famous 12th century Norman Cathedral. Your second night is spent here.

Arthurian legend mixes with genuine Celtic history in Cornwall, England's westernmost county. We'll explore the ancient Cornish capital of Launceston and its 12th century Norman castle, then head west to the North Cornish coast and the Elizabethan fishing village of Boscastle. Indulge in a cream tea, take a stroll out to the dramatic headland, or learn a spell or two in the Museum of Witchcraft. We'll then travel to the village of Tintagel and the ruins of its headland Castle, purportedly the birthplace of King Arthur. After lunch, we'll head to Port Isaac where you can get your Doc Martin’s fix, and fall in love with this picturesque fishing village. We'll then head south to the bustling port town of Falmouth for the next two nights.

Explore the most westerly tip of England on this magnificent day. Take in the stunning Minack Theatre built into the cliffs overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, and the beautiful National Trust beach at Porthcurno. You may even see some pirates at Penzance! We'll return to Falmouth for the night.

This morning you say farewell to Cornwall and travel back through the Devon countryside with stops for photos and refreshments before arriving at the famous town of Glastonbury for lunch. Glastonbury Tor rises high above the town and has mythical connections with King Arthur and Avalon. We'll then return to London, arriving at approximately 7:30pm.
