Itinerary

Picture it - you're jumping from Nashville to Memphis to New Orleans, laying down tracks at recording studios and hanging out at Graceland along the way. It may sound like a week in the life of Elvis Presley, but on this 6-day adventure, you'll have the chance to walk a country mile in his blue suede shoes. Join a local leader and group of fellow music lovers to get to the root of country music in Nashville, sing the blues in Memphis and jazz it up in New Orleans. If fantastic food, art, culture and history sound like music to your ears, then this is the trip for you.

【Itinerary】

Day 1: Nashville
Welcome to Nashville, Tennessee! This energetic city celebrates boot-scooting, whiskey shooting and rootin’-tootin' country music like nowhere else. Your adventure kicks off with a welcome meeting at 10am, where you'll meet up with your local leader and the other travellers joining you on your journey. Then dive straight into the city's history with a visit to the Country Music Hall of Fame. This fabulous piano-shaped building is a work of art in itself, and contains Elvis's gold Cadillac among other impressive memorabilia. Then cruise across town to Studio B where Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Roy Orbison and "The King" Elvis Presley have all laid tracks, and today you'll be joining this prestigious list. Meet with a professional sound engineer for your own recording session and find out what it takes to create the Nashville sound. Enjoy a free afternoon to explore the city - you may like to check out the Nashville murals, visit the much-loved Goo Goo candy store, or swing by the Johnny Cash Museum. Get back together in the evening for an optional dinner (at your own expense) with your group and leader at a local restaurant.
Accommodation: (1 Night)
Included Activities:
Nashville - Country Music Hall of Fame
Nashville - Studio B tour with recording session

Day 2: Memphis
Hit the road this morning and make tracks for Memphis, Tennessee, a city overflowing with musical history and legends. Your first stop on arrival will be Sun Studio. This studio may be tiny, but its impact on the world of music is immeasurable. BB King, Johnny Cash, Howlin' Wolf and Elvis Presley have all recorded here, and the studio claims to be the 'Birthplace of Rock 'n' Roll' (and they may just be right!). The rest of the day is yours to discover the sights and sounds of Memphis. No visit to this city would be complete without checking out Beale Street, lined with traditional blues clubs - ask your leader where the locals hang out so you can avoid the tourist hotspots.
Accommodation: (1 Night)
Included Activities: Memphis - Sun Studio Visit
Meals: Breakfast

Day 3: Memphis
After breakfast this morning, head to Memphis-s most iconic site - Graceland! Elvis's former home and his final resting place, a visit to Graceland is like stepping back into the 1970s, with a glamourous and kitschy twist. Explore a fascinating world of green shag-carpet ceilings and yellow vinyl walls while getting a sneak peek into the glitzy side of the Deep South. Then it's time for a change of pace as you leave Graceland and visit the National Civil Rights Museum at the former Lorraine Motel - where Martin Luther King Jr was assassinated - for a dose of history that is both confronting and inspirational. The rest of the afternoon is free for your own discoveries - your leader will have some tips on how to get the most out of this lively city.
Accommodation: (1 Night)
Included Activities:
Memphis - Graceland, The Home of Elvis Presley
Memphis - National Civil Rights Museum
Meals: Breakfast

Day 4: New Orleans
Today you'll be road-tripping from Memphis to New Orleans, arriving in the afternoon. Jazz is not just a part of the city's history - it's alive and kicking today. On arrival, join a local expert for a deep dive into the New Orleans' music scene, hitting up local haunts and hotspots. Start from the popular French Quarter, explore the thriving Marigny neighbourhood and visit the famous Frenchman Street, where you'll find the largest concentration of live music venues in the city. Your local guide will show you some of their favourite venues, with time to grab a beer along the way. The evening is yours to further explore this fascinating city - your leader will have some great recommendations on where to grab a bite to eat and listen to more live music.
Accommodation: (1 Night)
Included Activities: New Orleans - Jazz Music Tour
Meals: Breakfast

Day 5: New Orleans
This morning, pay a visit to the Whitney Plantation where you'll learn about what life was like for those enslaved on a Louisiana sugarcane plantation. With a focus on the lives of slaves rather than the opulent house the slave owners lived in, exploring this plantation is a sobering and eye-opening experience. Then you're in for a real treat - not only famed for its music scene, the food in New Orleans is some of the best in the country. Today you'll learn about Creole and Cajun cuisine at a local cooking school and find out how to create one of the region's most beloved dishes, then tuck into the finished product for dinner.
Accommodation: (1 Night)
Included Activities:
New Orleans - Cooking Class
New Orleans - Plantation Tour
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Day 6: New Orleans
Just like a good song, your adventure must come to an end, with things wrapping up this morning. If you'd like to spend more time exploring New Orleans, just get in touch ahead of time and we can arrange additional accommodation (subject to availability).

    • ITINERARY DISCLAIMER: Our itineraries are updated regularly throughout the year based on customer feedback and to reflect the current situation in each destination. The information included in this Essential Trip Information may therefore differ from when you first booked your trip. It is important that you review this information prior to travel so that you have the latest updates. Due to weather, local conditions, transport schedules, public holidays, or other factors, further changes may be necessary to your itinerary once in-country. The order and timing of included activities in each location may also vary seasonally to ensure our travellers have the best experience. Your tour leader will keep you up to date with any such changes once on tour.
    • FEEDBACK: Can't stop thinking about your adventure? Tell us all about it! We read each piece of feedback carefully and use it to make improvements for travellers like you.
    • FOOD AND DIETARY REQUIREMENTS: While travelling with us you'll experience the vast array of wonderful food available in the world. Your group leader will be able to suggest restaurants to try during your trip. To give you the maximum flexibility in deciding where, what and with whom to eat, generally not all meals are included in the trip price. This also gives you more budgeting flexibility. As a rule our groups tend to eat together to enable you to taste a larger variety of dishes and enjoy each other's company. If you have dietary requirements and/or food allergies, please let your booking agent know prior to departure.
    • ACCOMMODATION: The style of accommodation indicated in the day-to-day itinerary is a guideline only and may change. On some occasions, alternative arrangements may need to be made due to the lack of availability of rooms in our preferred accommodation. In these cases, we will use a similar standard of accommodation. Throughout the trip, we request that our properties prepare rooms in time for our arrival, especially if we're arriving prior to normal check-in time. However, this isn't always possible which means we won't be able to check-in immediately on arrival at some hotels. Instead, we can store our luggage and explore our new destination or on some trips, have use of shared day rooms until all rooms are available.
    • NORTH AMERICA VEHICLES: Our large fleet of vans are fully equipped with dual air-conditioning system, V8 engines and any camping or cooking equipment needed for your trip. Most have cloth-upholstered seats and carpeted interior with radio/tape or CD players. Your luggage is transported in a trailer which is towed behind the van. The vans are regularly serviced in our own maintenance facility and continuously checked and serviced by a well-established network of maintenance and service facilities throughout the continent. However, unforeseen maintenance problems can still occur while on the road and we appreciate the patience of our travellers as we make necessary repairs as quickly as possible. While your group will have a van for all included activities on the trip, the services of the van and the driver may not be available for your use during free time, or after you have arrived for the day. If you need a special trip into town you may need to arrange transport or a taxi.
    • PACKING: What you need to bring will vary according to the trip style you have chosen, the places you are visiting and when you are travelling. We recommend you pack as lightly as possible and make sure that you can carry and lift your own luggage and walk with it for short distances or up or down a flight of stairs. Our travellers usually find the smaller their luggage is, the more they enjoy the trip not having to worry about carrying heavy bags! Aim to keep your main luggage under 15kg. All luggage is carried in trailers or inside the vehicle so please don't bring more than one medium sized bag, backpack or suitcase per person. Your luggage may get some rough handling, so make sure it's a tough one. You'll also need a daypack to carry water, camera, jacket, etc when you’re exploring during the day. Below we have listed the essentials for this trip: https://www.intrepidtravel.com/packing-list
    • WATER BOTTLE: Please bring your own water bottle to refill along the way. Although it can be difficult to avoid bottled water when travelling, please use the water dispensers which are provided on some of our vehicles and at some of our accommodation. Your leader will advise whether tap water is safe to drink in your destination and if it is you can simply refill with tap water. When unable to avoid bottled water it is better to buy the largest available and distribute into your smaller bottle for the day. If you are walking or trekking as part of your trip you will need to carry at least 2L of water with you.
    • CLIMATE AND SEASONAL INFORMATION: The following national holidays are observed in the US, which can affect our itinerary as traffic can be extreme, and shops, restaurants and attractions can be closed: New Year's Day (01 January), Martin Luther King Jr. Day (third Monday of January), Washington's Birthday (third Monday of February), Memorial Day (last Monday of May), Independence Day (4 July), Labor Day (first Monday in September), Columbus Day (second Monday of October), Veterans Day (11 November), Thanksgiving Day (fourth Thursday of November), Christmas Day (25 December).
    • WEATHER IN NORTH AMERICA: Due to the size and topography of the US and Canada, there's a huge amount of variation in the climate. We recommend you consider both the season and the part of North America you intend to visit, so that you can best pack for your adventure.
    • GROUP LEADER: All group trips are accompanied by one of our group leaders. The aim of the group leader is to take the hassle out of your travels and to help you have the best trip possible. Intrepid endeavours to provide the services of an experienced leader however, due to the seasonality of travel, rare situations may arise where your leader is new to a particular region or training other group leaders. Your leader will provide information on the places you are travelling through, offer suggestions for things to do and see, recommend great local eating venues and introduce you to our local friends. While not being guides in the traditional sense, you can expect them to have a broad general knowledge of the places visited on the trip, including historical, cultural, religious, and social aspects. At Intrepid we aim to support local guides who have specialised knowledge of the regions we visit. If you are interested in delving deeper into the local culture at a specific site or location then your leader can recommend a local guide service in most of the main destinations of your trip.
    • NORTH AMERICAN LEADERS: Our leaders in the US and Canada are also responsible for driving the van and navigating across the country. The allowable driving times for drivers is strictly controlled in North America. This ensures our drivers are well rested and are not over-tired from too many hours on the roads. It's strictly forbidden for non-qualified rangers to present any information about some National Parks in North America, therefore we adopt a system (as requested by the park rangers) where our leader will encourage travellers to visit the information centres in the National Parks for details about the site.
    • Passport & visas: You must carry a valid passport and have obtained all of the appropriate visas, permits and certificates for the countries which you will visit during your trip. Your passport must be valid for 6 months beyond the duration of the trip. We are not responsible if you are refused entry to a country because you lack the correct passport, visa or other travel documentation.

Please refer to our website before departure for the most recent updates to your itinerary. before departure: If we make a major change we will inform you as soon as reasonably possible if there is time before departure. The definition of a major change is deemed to be a change affecting at least one day in five of the itinerary. When a major change is made you may choose between accepting the change, obtaining a refund of money paid on the land portion of the trip only or accepting an alternative tour offered. after departure: We reserve the right to change an itinerary after departure due to local circumstances or events outside of our control. In such emergency circumstances the additional cost of any necessary itinerary alterations will be covered by you. Please note we are not responsible for any incidental expenses that may be incurred as a result of the change of itinerary such as visas, vaccinations or non-refundable flights.

The decision of the group leader is final on all matters likely to affect the safety or well-being of any person participating in the trip.
