The site has been utilized by Polish rulers since the 9th century when the Vislane tribe had a fort there. Throughout the years, Wawel Castle was home to many of Poland's royalty, who rebuilt or remodeled the structure to their liking. Today, the castle is open to the public with permanent and temporary exhibitions as well as seasonal tours.

Excellent team
We thoroughly enjoyed the itinerary for the highlights of Eastern Europe. It had a good balance of activities. As usual, the extra excursions rounded out our experience. We were pleased with the hotels, restaurants, and 'Be Our Guest' excursions. We had the best tour guide – Kate. We feel she went above and beyond, assisting some of the travellers. Her sense of humour, vast knowledge, and personal stories kept us entertained and engaged in our surroundings.
