Built in the late 18th century by King Jeongjo of the Joseon Dynasty, the fortress was designed to protect the city and honor his father’s memory. The walls stretch nearly 6 kilometers and include impressive gates, watchtowers, and secret passages. Today, visitors can walk along the restored ramparts, explore Hwaseong Haenggung Palace, and even try traditional archery.
