This ornate Midtown Manhattan cathedral replaced St. Patrick's Old Cathedral in 1879 as the seat of the Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York. Construction on the Neo-Gothic style St. Patrick's Cathedral designed by James Renwick Jr. was completed in 1878 and the spires, another chapel, organs and stained glass windows were added in later years.
