Best St Lawrence River Day Trips & Things to Do

The St. Lawrence River is the primary drainage conveyer of the Great Lakes, the largest freshwater system in the world. In the past it served as the primary conduit for exploration, settlement and trade. The river flows 744 miles from Lake Ontario into the world's largest estuary, the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Major attractions include Thousand Islands at the mouth of Lake Ontario, the idyllic Ile de Orleans just outside of Quebec City, and Saint Helen's Island in Montreal. Farther downstream at the confluence of the river Saguenay, one can watch minke whales, belugas, great fin and humpback whales breaching the waters of the St. Lawrence River.
