Best Slide Rock State Park Day Trips & Things to Do

This colorful red sandstone state park near Sedona, Arizona within Coconino National Forest was just named one of "America's 10 Best State Parks" in 2014 by Fodor's Travel. Slide Rock State Park was established in 1987 and commercially developed by Frank L. Pendley, who arrived in the area in 1907. It still contains the apple farm planted by Pendley back in 1912 in addition to several historical structures. The 43-acre park is named for its natural sandstone rock water slide into Oak Creek and is one of the state's most popular tourist attractions.
