The Chicago aquarium that opened in 1929 has more than 32,500 animals and welcomes about two million visitors annually. Shedd Aquarium contains a three-million-gallon Oceanarium holding Pacific white-sided dolphins, Beluga whales, harbor seals and Alaska sea otters. Exhibits are Caribbean Reef, Amazon Rising's Flooded Forest, Abbott Oceanarium's Pacific Northwest, Wild Reef's Indo-Pacific Reef and Polar Play Zone.
