Rochester began as a village in the early 1800s as Rochesterville and was incorporated as a city in 1834. The city's Highland Park was designed by renowned architect Frederick Law Olmstead in 1888 and Rochester's Browncroft Historic District is on the U.S. Register of Historic Places.
