The town hall of Berlin in the Mitte district near Alexanderplatz and the Berlin TV Tower is home to the governing mayor and the Senate of Berlin and is framed by a terracotta frieze that illustrates milestones in the city’s history. The Red Town Hall, which gets its name from its red-brick façade, was ironically the seat of government for Communist East Berlin.
